Out in Tech’s First New York Demos & Drinks Event

Join us for Out In Tech’s first ever demo night: Demos and Drinks! Come learn about some awesome projects Out In Tech members are working on and then stay for an engineer and developer-focused social!

When you arrive, you’ll clear through security and they’ll give you a passcode for the elevator. Once at the school, you’ll check-in with The Flatiron School.

RSVPs are required and free. Doors open at 6:30 PM, make sure to arrive early to guarantee entrance. This event will be drinks only, and you must be 21 or older to attend.

Mark Ramos

last_night_i_dreamt_of_a_hollow_earth is a series of 3-d printed sculptures generated from the brainwave patterns of dreams.

This project began as a means to manifest intangible things as physical objects.

I was interested in taking abstract concepts like dreams, thoughts, and memories and making them into physical sculptures.

A BCI (Brain Computer Interface) was used to record the electrical activity of people’s brainwaves while they talked about their dreams. These brain readings were used to generate virtual shapes. These virtual shapes were then converted into 3-D mesh objects that were 3-D printed as physical sculptures.

These sculptures could be seen as artifacts of the unconscious.

Mark Ramos is a Brooklyn-based new media artist. He works with the mediums of physical computing (using computers to sense and react to the physical world), software programming and digital sculpture to create interactive, installation pieces.

His work is often concerned with using digital technology as an intermediary to explore the intangible.

Mark has exhibited his work locally both in New York City and San Francisco, including the inaugural exhibition of Arsenal Gallery in Brooklyn and as part of multiple exhibitions at Artist Television Access.

Mark earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College and an Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University. He is currently adjunct faculty at School of Visual Arts and Hudson College.

David Glaubner

Co-founder, Pramp

First of it’s kind peer-2-peer interview preparation platform. Pramp brings job candidates together to practice job interviews, starting with software engineers. We match candidates with ideal practice buddies, provide interview content and host their mock interviews.

David is an entrepreneur and software engineer from Tel Aviv, Israel. Started coding at the age of 14 and later served as a commander in the Israeli military intelligence. David worked for Check Point and an Israeli startup named Innovid as a software engineer. In 2014 he co-founded Pramp together with Refael Zikavashvili to create the recruiting & job interview practice experience they have always wanted to have.

David holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Geography from Tel Aviv University, and spend his time between his startup in SF and his husband in NYC. You can find him coding at his desk, training engineers online on Pramp, walking his dog in Hells Kitchen and running in Central Park or along the piers in San Francisco.

Mike Karp

COO, DogStar Life

DogStar Life has created the world’s first emotion sensor for dogs. The device, worn on the tail, translates dog emotions for their parents, and allows those parents to make smarter decisions to improve their quality of life.

Mike Karp is a tech enthusiast and experienced consultant. He helped American Express merchants build their businesses leveraging the power of AmEx data, both here and in Sydney. And, Mike led teams of consultants building systems for Fortune 100 companies at IBM. He currently serves as Board Chair for ReLearning Curve, a non-profit devoted to program evaluation in the arts and education. He is a proud Claremont McKenna College, Columbia University, and Cornell Tech alum (founding MBA class at Cornell Tech).

Shane Hartman & Erik Mace
Bye Felicia

Bye Felicia is a social pop-culture trivia app in the casual gaming and dating app space. Inspired by the co-founders’ fatigue with Tinder and OkCupid, Bye Felicia aims to offer a unique twist on dating. It will provide a more fun way to meet other people or challenge a friend to see who is more in the know about what’s happening in the world of music and popular entertainment.

Shane Hartman is Lead Mobile Engineer at Itemize. Prior to joining the team at Itemize, he worked as a product manager at Voil, a start-up in the restaurant reservation & payment space. Shane began his career in technology at FujiFilm’s e-Commerce division while an still an undergraduate and returned to tech several years ago as a freelance mobile engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Erik Mace is an award-winning art director, who in his more than 10-year career has worked with clients such as Yahoo, Pfizer, Tablet Magazine, 92Y, Stanford and other organizations to deliver smart creative with a touch of whimsy. He earned a BFA in visual communications from Washington University in St. Louis, where he focused his studies on branding, typography, web design, and creative strategy.

Out in Tech is a non-profit organization that aims to unite LGBT individuals across technology-related industries and provide a community that supports all LGBTs in tech. Originally started in New York City, Out in Tech has almost 5,000 members and has hosted dozens of events since its inception in 2012.
