What is Out in Tech?
Out in Tech unites the LGBTQ+ tech community. We do this by creating opportunities for our 30,000 members in 15 cities to advance their careers, grow their networks, and leverage tech for social change.
What's the problem?
In 70+ countries, it’s a crime to be openly LGBTQ, in some cases punishable by death (it's almost 2020 -- no more state-sponsored murder, please). Even in the USA, discrimination against queer and trans people is worse than most people think, with no protections in housing, healthcare, or employment in 30 states. Source.
What's Out in Tech doing about it?
Out in Tech Digital Corps enables LGBTQ+ activists worldwide to grow their communities, advocate for policy change, and raise funds. We've built 100+ WordPress.com sites. We need your help to build 50 more by 2021!
By supporting us, you're helping to make the world safer for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender diverse, questioning, and intersex individuals.
What's unique about our approach?
While Out in Tech can't change the laws in those countries, we can work to build equality for these LGBTQ+ activists, community organizations, charities, and queer social entrepreneurs who lack the expertise to setup their own websites or the knowledge to safeguard the online safety of their constituents.
What are some recent examples of our impact?
REPADIS, an LGBTQ+ organization in Paraguay, leveraged their new website to win two projects in HIV prevention and economic self-sufficiency for womxn. They leveraged their site to provide information to donors and reinforce credibility.
Amkeni Malindi, a group focused on mental health and wellbeing for the LGBTQ+ community in rural Kenya, was able to assist six new clients in the first two months of having a website.
Key Population Uganda is a youth-led group org working to improve the health, rights, and safety of the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda. They've used their website to obtain grants and promote local events, including a dialogue between Ugandans and refugee youth from the Congo & South Sudan.
