Out in Tech is hiring a 2020 Summer Intern!
Program and Communications Intern, Out in Tech
New York City
Reports to Program Director
Deadline to apply: Wednesday, April 8
Hi, I’m Gary (he/him).
I am Senior Program Director of Out in Tech. We’re hiring an intern to support the growth of the Out in Tech global community, with a special emphasis on Miami, Florida. Our intern will have a seat at the table, contributing to the success of our programming that reaches more than 30,000 people globally.
This role is designed to be a significant growth opportunity for someone looking to break into tech or non-profits — or in this case, both.
About Out in Tech
Our mission is to unite the LGBTQ+ tech community through thought-provoking events and impactful volunteer opportunities. We design our experiences around making tech more inclusive and representative of groups historically barred from the world’s most influential careers — whether they identify as queer, female, trans, black, Latinx, or any intersection thereof. We expect those working with us to care about this, too. We’re building a global community because we believe a tech industry that is inclusive of LGBTQ+ people will inevitably lead to equitable workplaces, innovative new ideas, and a more just future. Our approach is to build the confidence and credentials of LGBTQ+ folks to unleash a turbo-charged new wave of queer tech talent.
Founded in 2013 in NYC, today we have 15 chapters in 4 countries. We’re committed to building a diverse, intersectional membership as we grow to ensure all underestimated groups feel they belong in the defining sector of our time.
About the role
Out in Tech’s goal is to scale its programs and offerings with intention. The organization is growing, and as a result our portfolios are shifting. You will engage in a meaningful onboarding that spans every aspect of Out in Tech’s community and impact programs. Pretty quickly, you will be conducting outreach to other groups, tech companies, and our volunteer leadership team with the goal of supporting the growth of Out in Tech.
On a typical day, you might be supporting Out in Tech volunteers via our Slack community, contributing your ideas in a weekly staff meeting, conducting outreach to community partners, strategizing ways to grow some of our newest chapters (e.g. Miami), and/or helping to plan the Out in Tech Leadership Training Institute. You’ll have access to all of the devices, tools, and professional development that enable you to flourish.
You will likely have: a) demonstrated interest in tech, startups, or social justice, b) contributed to student groups or other volunteer-led organizations, and c) passion for equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Your key skills
You are a) self-motivated, individual contributor with a strong work ethic, b) clear communicator who seeks advice when stuck, and c) highly organized, with a desire to help get things done.
Is this you?
Please send your resume by March 24 to email@example.com . In your cover letter, please include a strategic recommendation regarding how you would help us grow Out in Tech Miami, one of our new chapters.
Our culture attracts those with a commitment to and demonstrated passion for intersectional approaches to social justice, diversity, and equity. We strongly encourage gender non-binary, gender non-conforming, gender queer, people of color, transgender people, and women to apply. You can bring your whole self to work (or not, when taking advantage of our flexible work schedule).
Out in Tech takes diversity and equal opportunity seriously. We seek to build an inclusive team that reflects the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community because we know that will enable us to do our best work.
