Out in Tech Indianapolis | Queer X Design: A Talk with Andy Campbell

Join Out in Tech Indianapolis, Indy Design Week, and SEP on Tues, May 5 at 6:30p ET for a special discussion with Andy Campbell, author of Queer X Design. Andy will give a talk about the book that goes through the genesis of the project, as well as several examples of objects from the book to give a sense of breadth of LGBTQ production.

Your local Out in Tech team will introduce you to our speaker, and you’ll have a chance to ask him any questions and e-mingle and network with fellow LGBTQ+ techies in Indy.

Andy Campbell :


Andy Campbell, PhD, is an art and design historian whose work is sited at the juncture of identity-based political movements, their visual cultures, and art’s histories. Described as “a telling visual tapestry of an emerging LGBTQ language and identity,” his bookQueer X Design: 50 Years of Signs, Symbols, Banners, Logos, and the Graphic Art of LGBTQwas released in May 2019; his second book,Bound Together: Leather, Sex, Archives and Contemporary Art(released in January 2020) examines artists who draw imagery and inspiration from leather archives to fashion a queer politics of the present. His academic writings and art criticism can be found inArtforum,GLQ,Rhizomes, andAperture, amongst others. He lives in Long Beach, CA, and is an Assistant Professor of Critical Studies at USC’s Roski School of Art and Design
