Chief of Staff, Out in Tech
Los Angeles or New York City
Reports to Executive Director
Hi, I’m Andrew (he/him).
I am Executive Director of Out in Tech. We are hiring a Chief of Staff (CoS) to partner with us on driving Out in Tech’s mission forward. Our CoS will have a seat at the table, contributing to key decisions about impact, strategy, and growth of the largest LGBTQ+ tech community in the world. This role is designed to be a significant leadership opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career.
About Out in Tech
Our mission is to unite the LGBTQ+ tech community through thought-provoking events and impactful volunteer opportunities. We design our experiences around making tech more inclusive and representative of groups historically barred from the world’s most influential careers—whether they identify as queer, female, trans, black, Latinx, or any intersection thereof. We expect those working with us to care about this, too.
We’re building a global community because we believe a tech industry that is inclusive of LGBTQ+ people will inevitably lead to equitable workplaces, innovative new ideas, and a more just future. Our approach is to build the confidence and credentials of LGBTQ+ folks to unleash a turbo-charged new wave of queer tech talent. Founded in 2013 in NYC, today we have 12 chapters in 3 countries, with 30,000 members. We’re committed to building a diverse, intersectional membership as we scale to ensure all underestimated groups feel they belong in the defining sector of our time.
About the role
Out in Tech’s goal is to scale its programs and products with intention. The organization is growing, and as a result our portfolios are shifting. The Chief of Staff will engage in a meaningful learning and discovery phase that spans every aspect of Out in Tech. Pretty quickly, you will be meeting with sponsors, donors, and board members with the goal of evolving our strategic plan, with an eye toward Out in Tech’s long-term sustainability. You will collect data, conduct research, and share your insights on organizational opportunities, and then help us to prioritize and execute on those ideas.
As a key organizational leader, you’ll also be responsible for driving revenue-generating partnerships, operations, and managing the alignment of key priorities across the organization. In other words, you’ll help ensure that staff and our outstanding volunteer leaders are focused on the right things at the right time to stay ahead of the curve. You’ll have access to all of the devices, tools, and professional development experiences that enable you to flourish.
You will likely have: 1) worked in tech, startups, or social enterprise, 2) excelled as part of a company or organization that has experienced growth, and 3) exhibited emotional intelligence to win the trust and respect of a wide range of stakeholders.
Your key skills
You are a: 1) strategic thinker and proactive doer, comfortable developing short- and long-term plans, 2) confident communicator who shapes complex ideas into clear audience-specific narratives, and 3) collaborative thought partner, excited to join an organization committed to inclusive growth and impact.
Is this you?
Please send your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org. In your cover letter, please include a strategic recommendation regarding something you’d like to see Out in Tech do next.
Our culture attracts those with a commitment to and demonstrated passion for intersectional approaches to social justice, diversity, and equity. Out in Tech takes diversity and equal opportunity seriously. We seek to build an inclusive team that reflects the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community because we know that will enable us to do our best work.
